This is a photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows several Malay passenger sampans lined up for a race at the New Year Sea Sports, on 1 January 1925. The annual regatta is held at the Singapore Harbour, off Collyer Quay. The Varuna can also be seen in the back ground on the right. Varuna, the Singapore Harbour Board service tug serves as the regatta’s Committee Boat. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff. Information contributed by Richard Hale.
