Abstract
Features Sunil Amarasuriya, chairman of BP de Silva Holdings. This is one of the oldest family business in Singapore, and was founded in 1982 by BP de Silva, who came to Singapore in 1870 and started the BP de Silva Jewellery Store at no. 62 High Street. The company has survived in its quiet way and has made its mark through the credibility and trust it has built up over the years. In the mid 1930s, it diversified and went into the watch business, starting with Tissot and Omega watches, and it has also recently tied up with AP (Audemars Piguet) in a joint venture to market its products. However, Sunil Amarasuriya realised that in in the process of diversification, he had neglected the jewelry business, and he has plans to revamp the jewellery business and to take bold new steps to recapture the market.
