This photograph shows the original Bengkali Mosque or Masjid Bencoolen, on Bencoolen Street which was built around 1845, by Syed bin Ali Al-Junied for the Muslims who lived nearby. Loudspeakers, attached to the entrance, served to summon the faithful to prayer. Next to the mosque is the former Asia Radio Building.
