Information About

A contemporary treatment of a story taken from the Chinese Anthology of the Supernatural, Liaozhai Zhiyi. The dance drama is based on the Confucian teaching of filial piety. It depicts a man's journey into Hades and the cruelty and corruption he encounters in a quest for justice for his dead father. This piece was commissioned and premiered in Singapore by the People's Association Dance Company and Singapore Chinese Orchestra in 1987; The dance drama subsequently received its second performance in Paris in 1988. This music was scored for a Chinese Orchestra with an extended percussion section. The styles of the piece is a mixture of thoughts in both Chinese traditional and western contemporary idiom of writing.
