Information About

This suite is an extraction from the incidental music originally written for Oolah's World, a play jointly produced by Singapore's Chinese theatrical troupes during the Singapore Festival of Arts in 1984. Inspired by the story "The Luosha Kingdom" in Liaozhai Zhiyi (a Chinese classic novel), the play depicts love, friendship, affection for one's hometown and the contrast between beauty and ugliness. The music is performed primarily by the Chinese orchestra, with support from western instruments. As for the source material (melody, tempo, instrumentation etc.), it aims to strike a balance between east and west, as well as between traditional and modern, corresponding to the play's style and its experimental and creative nature.
