Wild Dot is a nature-guided studio from Singapore started by Shirin Rafie and Liz Liu in 2020. Combining their interests in art, botany, and design, they have been experimenting with local natural pigments available within Singapore, and to uncover the nuanced stories of colours that people make in the process. As artists, they hope to connect with others through the joy and labour of colour making.

Rice as a plant and material holds special significance to Wild Dot, as it is one of the sources of binders they have grown familiar with for paint making. By highlighting rice, they hope to celebrate its cultural significance while showcasing the incredible diversity within this single plant.

Through this project, they hope to explore the varied hues of rice in our social fabric—starting with seemingly mundane questions, like the brand of rice one eats at home, to delving into deeper cultural and personal meanings such as cultural associations with colored rice and the memories making with rice evokes.
