We will explore the value of resources, the nutritional advantages of fresh, pesticide-free vegetables, and the environmental benefits of supporting local produce. Learn to decode labelling claims within the context of Singapore’s push to produce 30% of its nutritional needs locally by 2030. Understand how different cultivation methods affect produce quality and contribute to sustainability goals. This talk aims to educate consumers on making informed choices and appreciating sustainable farm practices. This programme was held in conjunction with Republic Polytechnic. // A plant molecular biologist by training, Ms Fong Siew Lee obtained her MSc from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), focusing on the molecular characterisation of transgenic pest resistant oil palm. She had managed multiple urban farming projects successfully, and co-authored 6 research articles. Currently, she is the Research Scientist of Agriculture Research and Innovation Centre, Republic Polytechnic (RP), which is also part of Urban Agriculture Centre of Innovation (UACOI), where she plays an instrumental role in advancing sustainable resource management practices in urban farming. With a strong commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in agriculture, Siew Lee has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at optimizing resource use and supporting farms in achieving sustainable farming practices to produce quality crops.
