Abstract
Composed and performed by Alex Abisheganaden, and recorded live at Sonic Studios on 14th August 2000, this very short work derives its name from a district on the East Coast of Singapore. It was inspired by the insouciant and carefree spirit of Singaporean Eurasians who lived in Katong although it does not quote from actual tunes. Its bluesy melody and casual “strolling” rhythm provides the ground bass for a creative solo guitarist to improvise and play variations upon. The score which Alex Abisheganaden notated provides only the basic harmonies and rhythm of its theme. The rest may be extemporised ad libitum by the performer.
