Information About

One of Singapore’s oldest coastal settlements, Punggol is a beautiful waterfront today. But did you know that it used to be home to pig farms and private zoos? When Punggol Beach was used as an entry point for invasion during the war years, orders were issued to relocate the animals from the Punggol Zoo so that the area could be used for defence. When this order was not met, the birds were freed and the animals shot. Some of these specimens are housed at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) today. Using archival records and taking reference from museum specimens, this talk explores Punggol's biodiversity history and its human-wildlife interactions, then and now.
