This is a photograph of Mr. Lee Hsien Loong (seated, front row, third from left), eldest son of the first Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, in his military uniform. He was selected as President's Scholar in 1970 and as the first Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholar. He was trained as an Artillery Officer in 1971 and completed the Officer Cadet Course at SAFTI or Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute. Later, he became Commanding Officer of 23 SA (1980); Assistant Chief of the General Staff (Operations); Chief of Staff of the General Staff (1982-1984); and Director of the Joint Operations and Planning Directorate (1983-1984).
