It was installed on a landscaped promontory called Merlion Park at the mouth of Singapore River, and unveiled by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, on 15 September 1972. In April 2002, the Merlion was relocated to a promontory in front of Fullerton Hotel at the Marina Bay waterfront. Title devised by Library staff.
