This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. John Anthony Moore Ede, Chairman of Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (SATA) from 1955 to 1957. He was General Manager of Cathay Organisation (1947-1962); Secretary of Progressive Party (1952-1953); Progressive Party Member of Legislative Assembly for Tanglin (1955-1959); Chairman of Singapore Musical Society (1951-1960); and President of Singapore Gardening Society (1967-1980). He was awarded the Public Service Star in 1989. He married Miss Amy Laycock (b.1923-d.2007), Progressive Party Municipal Commissioner for East Ward (Dec 1949-1952) and City Councillor for East Ward (Dec 1952-1957), and daughter of Mr. John Laycock (b.1903-d.1960), a prominent lawyer, in 1953.
