This is an elevated view of Malabar Muslim Jama'ath Mosque at 471, Victoria Street, with its octagonal minarets and onion-shaped dome. Also known as "Malabar Mosque" or "Masjid Malabar", it is the only mosque in Singapore run by the Malabar Muslim originated from Kerala in southern India. The mosque, constructed in traditional form, was designed by A.H. Siddique, a northern Indian immigrant. The foundation stone was laid on 10 April 1952. It was declared open by Mr. Yusof Ishak, Yang di-Pertuan Negara or Head of State, on 24 January 1963. In 1995, the mosque exterior is covered with blue and white lapis lazuli tiles to replaced its originally painted surface so as to fit into its surroundings. Title devised by Library staff.
