Information About

Ate Luosifen for lunch today at Liang Seah Street. The shop was Liuzhou Nuxu (柳州女婿). Luosifen is a speciality dish from Liuzhou, Guangxi. Been trending on Chinese videos, and I jumped on the chance to try it after knowing there is a shop selling it near my workplace. I ordered the mild spicy version, which was still slightly too spicy for me. Lucky for me that I ordered a cold drink too, and the free tissue paper provided! The dish was not bad, a bit sourish and spicy with a pungent fermentation smell. Taste different from other Chinese spicy foods that have been popping up in Singapore like Malatang and Chinese Sauerkraut fish. But two of my colleagues "ran away" after realising there are snails meat in it. Haha. Actually, the waiter explained to us the base ingredients in their dish are pickled sour bamboo shoots, black fungus, beancurd, sour long beans. We can add other ingredients such as pig skins, duck feet, pig intestines and others. The dish comes in both dry and soup version, spicy or non-spicy. A nice food adventure for a foodie like me on a rainy working day! Back to work after a satisfactory meal! -- Contributed by My Lee, as part of the "Singapore Makan" Contemporary Collecting initiative. This photograph shows a close-up view of a bowl of the Luosifen.
