This is a picture of Brigadier General Lee Hsien Loong (centre) waving to the crowd from a M71 155mm Howitzer at the farewell parade before leaving Singapore Armed Forces to take up his appointment as Political Secretary to the Minister of Defence on 21 September 1984. Trained as an Artillery Officer in 1971, he became Commanding Officer of 23 SA (1980); Assistant Chief of the General Staff (Operations); Chief of Staff, General Staff (1982-1984); and Director of the Joint Operations and Planning Directorate (1983-1984).
