Pictured here is a night soil collection vehicle making its rounds in a village. At that time, each household was provided with a bucket for human waste that was removed and replaced with an empty bucket daily. The buckets were transported in a vehicle fitted with eighty-compartment bucket chambers for disposal at the night soil station. The last bucket was collected on 24 January 1987 when modern sewage facilities were fully implemented throughout Singapore. Title devised by Library staff.
