This is a half-length portrait of Dr. Michael Fam Yue Onn (范佑安), Chairman of the Council of Nanyang Technological Institute (1981-1983) and later Chairman of the Council of Nanyang Technological University (1991-1993). He was Member (1963-1965) and later Deputy Chairman of the Public Utilities Board (1966-1968); Member (Feb 1969) and later Chairman of the Housing and Development Board (Apr 1975-1983); Chairman of the Public Transport Council (1987-1989); Director (1978) and later Chairman of the Fraser and Neave Group (1983-Oct 2007); Director (1979) and later Chairman of the Asia Pacific Breweries Limited (Feb 1990-Jan 2008); Chief Executive of the Hume Industries (Far East) (1981); Chairman of the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (1983-1991), Asia Pacific Investment Private Limited (1986-2005), Singapore Airlines Limited (1999) and Frasers Centrepoint Limited; and Member of the Council of Presidential Advisers of the Republic of Singapore. He also held directorships at Temasek Holdings, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (-May 2001), Straits Times Group (1974-1984) and Singapore Press Holdings Limited (Aug 1984-Dec 2004). He was the first to be accorded the "Businessman of the Year" award in Singapore in 1985. In recognition of his contribution to Singapore, he was also conferred the Public Service Star (1974), Meritorious Service Medal (1976), Distinguished Service Order (1983) and the Order of Nila Utama (First Class) (1990).
