A postcard showing the second pavilion of Singapore Recreation Club. The Club, founded by the Eurasian community in Singapore on 23 June 1883, was officially established on 1 July 1883. The foundation stone was laid by Club President (1902-1906) Mr. Edwin Tessensohn. The building was completed on 8 August 1905, and was declared open by Sir John Anderson, Governor of the Straits Settlements, on 2 September 1905. Two wings were added to the clubhouse and the work was completed in February 1931. The extension was declared open by Club President (1932-1936) Dr. Noel Leicester Clarke on 1 March 1931.
