This 1982 photograph shows Lorong 25 Geylang, towards Geylang Road. It depicts a row of shophouses and parked vehicles along one side of the road. The building is supported by Corinthian columns and pilasters, with French windows with timber louvers on the upper storey. There is a five-foot-way formed by the projecting upper floor and which forms a covered passageway for pedestrians. .Geylang is believed to be a corruption of the term "kilang", Malay for factory, from the coconut and lemongrass processing factories of the area.
