This is a half-length portrait of Mr. Soon Peng Yam (孙炳炎), the founder and Chairman of Sim Lim Group of Companies (1933-1988). He was Committee Member (1950-1972), Head of Construction Section (1972-1982) and later Vice-Chairman of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (1984-1997); Vice-President (1960-1962), President (1965-1969) and later Honorary President of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry; founding Director of Nippon Paint (Singapore) Company Private Limited (1963-1965); Chairman of Tung Ann District Guild (1966-1983), Ee Hoe Hean Club (1966-2001) and Chung Hwa Free Clinic Trust Foundation (Sep 1972-Dec 1981); President of Chinese Swimming Club (1963-1983) and District A of St. John Ambulance Brigade; Member of Chung Hwa Girls' High School Management Committee (1971-1984); Honorary President of Singapore Building Materials and Timber Suppliers Association; Patron of Soon Clan Association; and Director of Hotel Plaza Limited.
