This 1890 photograph from G.R. Lambert & Co. shows a view of Hotel de l'Europe and High Street. High Street was one of the earliest streets in Singapore to be laid out. Hotel de l'Europe, established in 1857, was located on the same site as both Gaston Dutronquoy’s London Hotel and the Hotel de l’Esperance. The hotel consisted of a number of buildings between High Street and Coleman Street, with separate bachelor and family quarters. (Caption source : Toh, p. 106).
