This 1995 photograph shows an intersection at River Valley Road (from opposite Hoot Kiam Road). There were two River Valley roads in the 1840s. These two roads, which ran on either side of the Singapore River, could have been named as such as the river looked like a valley between Fort Canning Hill and Pearl's Hill. Today, only one road remains as River Valley Road, while the other has been renamed Havelock Road. Title devised by Library staff.
