The dock was declared open by Sir Harry St. George Ord (b.1819-d.1885), Governor of the Straits Settlements (1867-1873), on 17 October 1868, in the presence of Mr. Thomas Scott, Chairman of Tanjong Pagar Dock Company Limited.
