This is a 1919 photograph of S.S. Atreus at Singapore. The photograph is mounted on a board, with handwritten words "S/S ATREUS SINGAPOR 1919. PILGRIMS. Pilgrims" on the front. She was built in 1911 for the Blue Funnel Line and made many voyages carrying pilgrims on their way to and from Mecca. She was requisitioned by the British Government in 1935 as a cable-laying ship. Following WWII she resumed carrying pilgrims until she was sold for scrap in 1949. Title devised by Library staff. Information contributed by Richard Hale.
