This is a photograph of Rear-Admiral (NS) Teo Chee Hean seating in his office during an interview. In 1973, he was awarded the President's and SAF Scholarships and commissioned as a naval officer of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral in July 1991. He was Head of Naval Plans Department (1981) and Joint Plans Management Department (1983); Chief of Staff (Naval Staff), RSN (1987-1990); Director of Joint Operations and Planning Directorate, RSN (1990-May 1991); Deputy Chief (1990-1991) and later Chief of Navy, RSN (Jun 1991-Dec 1992); Minister of State for Communications (Dec 1992-Jun 1994), Finance (Dec 1992-Apr 1995), and Defence (Jul 1994-Apr 1995); Senior Minister of State for Defence (Apr 1995-Jan 1996); Acting Minister for the Environment (Apr 1995-Jan 1996); Minister for the Environment (Jan 1996-Jan 1997), Education (Jan 1997-Jul 2003), and Defence (Aug 2003-to date); Second Minister for Defence (Jan 1996-Jul 2003); Minister in-charge of Civil Service, Prime Minister's Office (Aug 2003-to date); Deputy Prime Minister (Aug 2009-to date); Deputy Chairman of the National Research Foundation (Jul 2009-to date); Member of the People's Action Party (PAP) Central Executive Committee (Jan 1995-to date); President of the Singapore Dragon Boat Association (1994); PAP Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC (Dec 1992-1996), Pasir Ris GRC (1997-2001), and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC (2001-to date).
