The top of the Cathay Building was decorated with the words "Long May She Reign" to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953. The building used to house the popular Cathay Cinema, luxury apartments, a restaurant and a hotel. Cathay Building was gazetted as a national monument on 10 February 2003.
