This 1890s photograph shows a view of a kampong. Houses in a kampong were usually raised on wooden pillars above the ground. No fencing marked the boundary around the ground and houses were sometimes surrounded by plants, betel palms and a variety of fruit trees. Title devised by Library staff. Date of creation estimated.
