This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. George Yeo Yong-Boon (杨荣文), Second Minister for Foreign Affairs (Jul 1991-Jan 1994) and later Minister for Foreign Affairs (Aug 2004-2011). In 1973, he was selected as a President's Scholar. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1983, to Colonel in 1986 and to Brigadier-General in 1988. He was Head of Air Plans (Mar 1981-Jun 1983) and later Chief of Staff (Air Staff) of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (Jul 1985-May 1987); Director of Joint Operations and Planning Directorate at the Ministry of Defence (1986-1988); Member of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (Sep 1985-1990); Minister of State for Finance (Sep 1988-Nov 1990) and Foreign Affairs (Sep 1988-Nov 1990); Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Nov 1990-Jul 1991); Acting Minister for Information and the Arts (Nov 1990-Jul 1991); Second Minister for Trade and Industry (Jan 1997-Jun 1999); Minister for Information and the Arts (Jul 1991-Jun 1999), Health (Jan 1994-Jan 1997) and of Trade and Industry (Jun 1999-Aug 2004); People's Action Party Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC (1988-2011); President of SAFRA (Dec 1989-Oct 1993); and Chairman of Young PAP (1991-2000).
