Information About

This 1886 photograph shows an aerial view of the Singapore River from Fort Canning Hill. There is a handwritten note, "Singapore from Fort Canning" on the front of the photograph. In the middle, one can see Elgin Bridge on the river. Coleman Bridge (under construction), can be partially seen in the foreground. On the north bank of the river (today's Empress Place), is an area for government purposes. The south bank of the river, where one can find shophouses and godowns, is dedicated to trade and commercial activities. Title devised by Library staff. Date of creation estimated.
