Information About

A slightly reworked version of Waldseemuller's map which appeared in his edition of Ptolemy's Geographia published in 1513. Lorenz Fries' map adds an array of vignettes to depict the cultures of the region. One such is a king on a throne just above Malacca. The caption states that it is the kingdom of "Lamai"; possibly a corruption of the Lanna kingdom founded in 1259 by King Mengrai. -- Dealer's description.
