The hanging larder

Recollection

by Yeo, Hong Eng

During the pre-electricity days, the residents of Singapore used the larders to store their food. There were larders that stood on the ground. The picture shows a larder that was hanging from the beam. Cooked food was stored there for a short period of time. The larder was hung to prevent insects and other vectors from reaching the food inside.
