Recollection

This photograph is from my aunt. It was taken during her school days. I was told that the photo was taken in the Sixties. The Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, also known as Wan Qing Yuan, and formerly as Sun Yat Sen Villa, is a two-storey colonial style villa. The villa is now a museum commemorating Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China, who visited Singapore between 1900 and 1911. The Memorial Hall is located at 12 Tai Gin Road in Balestier, the villa occupies an area of approximately 3,120 square metres and played a crucial role in the 1911 Xinhai Revolution by serving as the Tongmenghui's base in Nanyang (Southeast Asia) in the early 20th century. This building is now a National Monument. I uploaded two photo, one showing the Memorial Hall taken in the Sixties and another the present Villa. You can barely see any differences in the Villa except those artefacts that are housed inside. Singapore charity organization, Lee Foundation had done a good deed in helping in the restoration of this National Monument.
