Library experience to be enhanced and expanded
Singapore, 3 March 2025 — Cheng San Public Library will be closed for revamp from 1 October 2025. Patrons can look forward to many new experiences at the revamped library, including a bigger space for reading and learning, programmes and services to stimulate the mind in new ways, and with design features inspired from the sights and scenes in Hougang.
The library will also be expanded. When it reopens in the first half of 2027, the library, which is currently on the third floor, will be relocated to the fifth floor. This allows the library to occupy a larger space, growing from its current 1,467 sqm to about 2,500 sqm. More details of the revamped library will be shared later.
The library’s revamp is part of the National Library Board’s (NLB) ongoing efforts to systematically rejuvenate our existing libraries. It is also being carried out in tandem with Frasers Centrepoint Trust’s Asset Enhancement Initiative for Hougang Mall.
NLB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ng Cher Pong, said: “The library has been serving the community well for more than 28 years and many have fond memories and experiences there. We will work closely with partners and the community to shape it, and develop a new space that will offer an enhanced experience for patrons of all ages.”
Cheng San Public Library will continue to operate till 30 September 2025. During the revamp, patrons can explore alternative services that will enable them to continue reading, learning, and discovery. These include:
