Programmes for Children

The National Library Board reaches out to children of all ages through a wide variety of programmes and activities. Children up to the age of 12 years will find relevant and engaging programmes for them at our public libraries. Parents, grandparents and caregivers can also join in the fun with the children in some of our programmes which are specially designed to promote bonding and fun. For Children

Reading & Activity Resources

To nurture a love for reading and lifelong learning in children, NLB has continued to expand our available range of programmes and services. We have literacy development programmes, which include story dramatisation, author highlights, reader profiling, introduction to fiction genre and story writing.

Regular programmes at the libraries include: Storytelling, Junior Reading Clubs, and Early Literacy programmes where parents take an active participation in their child's reading development.

Storytelling

Our librarians conduct regular storytelling sessions at all Public Libraries, except library@esplanade and library@chinatown. Sessions are catered to children of different age groups. Regular and special holiday programmes are also organized to cater to parents and children.

Children's Specials

Children’s Specials are conducted during the school holidays in all Public Libraries, except library@esplanade and library@chinatown. Children get to listen to interesting stories or facts, and enjoy hands-on craft sessions, conduct experiments or even create their own board games.

Please view our GoLibrary website for the full schedule of programmes at the libraries. For further enquiries on the programmes, please email us at: helpdesk@library.nlb.gov.sg

Read! Singapore

Extended specially in 2013, Read! Singapore now reaches out to young readers, who can enjoy recommended reads, interactive literary activities based on books as well as author programmes for ages 7 and up in all the four official languages. For more details, visit Read! Singapore's website: http://readsingapore.nlb.gov.sg/

For Parents

We recognise that parents play an important role in developing the reading habit in children. To help make that task easier, parents can participate in library-organised parenting workshops like Reading is Fun: Start Now!.

Our libraries also hold regular programmes like talks, workshops, performances, forums, and exhibitions targeted at children and their parents.

Workshops for Parents

Our interactive workshops are for parents and caregivers of children up to 6 years old to discover ways to cultivate and foster the love for reading in a child; create a supportive reading environment for a child through meaningful activities and play and understand how the parent-child bond can be strengthened through reading together. Our librarians will also share tips on how to select books for your child.
